SketchBook Project Submission Time

This is the third year that I have submitted sketchbooks to the Broolkyn Art Library. Although this is the first year that I’ve actually had an uplifting subject matter. The submission deadline is mid Feb and I’m about halfway done. I thought I’d stick my work so far up here, because I hope to reference it for my own work process.

Ahhh.… what is my brain [subtitle: Some thoughts about Flower pictures]

(So its obviously lunch time if the book cases are eating the books i was looking for. )

So l am just going to post this little snippet for the time being. But i wanted to talk about some of the conclusions i have reached about my flower paintings.

And complain about WordPress hiding the catagories (maybe thats a mobile thing).

The last two flower related posts i made give some indication of the direction I’ve been traveling in. And these books might give you an idea where I’ve been looking.

Duvet Week

That’s allowed? Right!

This week Ive decided to have a major snit at the world, or maybe its the last of a major Easter egg hangover …

Reuse

I have some used canvases that aren’t much so im attempting to make something of them.

This one was easy –

There was structure in the way the paint had been poured to pick out the tree. The paint was reds, yellow and browns. I added sky, folliage and the bank behind the trunk in pencil.

So the second half of winter term is relief printing and i would like to make some kind of floral image. Or flower adjacent ; you know me by now…

Wiggly Flowers

Little scribbles that could be flowers. Very carefully orchestrated of course. Or maybe I’ve spent too long re-potting the Cacti. [They’re doing okay, by the way.]

Found Flowers

There are about a 100 boxes of Stuff that i need to rehome at some point in the future. A lot of it is textile related. Sorting though I came across a pile of period embroidery. Most of it is 1930 – 50’s? – where you would iron on a blue design to your table cloth and satin stitch over the top.

Could I use these bits of cloth in my new, more positive facing project? I painted some with acrylic medium and had a go.

Learning Paint

And not just fence paint, although that’s part of it. The other day I realised that my entryway was particularly dull and depressing and so I’m painting it white. I want to get as much warmth and light into the area as possible. I may, paint asters over the knot holes at some later date.
