Ichnofacies, Geodes and Vugs

On the beach at Whitstable I found some tiny pebbles, full of holes. I’d been making holes in my poor bleached papers so I went back to my sketch books to see what other holes I had observed. You can define holes in stones in a number of different ways – Ichnofacies  Geodes and  Vugs are just a start.

Here’s a selection of holes and ideas of holes.

Necklaces

Last week we went to see Thea Porter exhibition at the Fashion and Textile Museum in Bermondsey.

In the shop were necklaces made from loom bands. They were pretty basic, just loads of loom bands shoved on to a cord. I thought I could do much better.

So I’ve had actually managed to finish something to my satisfaction. It didn’t turn out quite as I imagined, but then I was trying to recreate an impression rather than something I saw.

Is realism necessary – part ii

So if we are going for effect, lets go!

this one is about A6 in size. On the beach detail?

Both sides of this paper were interesting: so use both. the white interior of the torn edges makes a good quartz vein.

The background here is a little weak, but none of these are mounted yet.

Or you can go with a theme: colour RED

or GREEN…

Or minimalist (all these are about A5)

I have some 30×100 canvases. How could a horizontal composition work? in a big sweep?

or a vertical one? ‘walk’ up the frame…

Such a diverse selection of pebbles might not occur in nature.

Pass the time arranging pebbles on the sand.

Or maybe pile then on the rocks.
