Spring Green – An idea

The next six weeks of Morley college are – making a suite of dry point prints. And it’s time to be getting back to some representational drawing so i’ve been casting around for some inspiration.

Two colours – b/r

Here are some of the Blue/red prints with two colours on them. I finally got to try out some disrupted grounds (which will be plates 9 – 12). So I’ll try to explain how that one works when we get to it.

Blue proofs

1: Soft ground: drawn spontaneously on to tissue 9 with lots of practice else where

2: Soft ground: long edge of connote paste dragged over textured paper

3: hard ground: hatching made with riffler (type of file). Plate dipped into acid bath to get graduated tone.

4: Sugar lift, open bite: granular sugar sprinkled on to warmed plate

5; Spit bite: My first attempt – right side should have been deeper etched, needs do round.

6: White ground; field 2 layers dabbed with natural sponge, absence, several thick layers

7: Spit bite, more confident here… yet…

8: Aquatint: all over dodgy, plan to burnish things out.

I could write lots more about these plates and processes, but not right now.
